Boxes / Multi-Format Packaging

Slipcases can enhance the appearance of a Standard CD Jewel case or DVD Amaray case.

They are a cost effective alternative either to freshen up the outward appearance of a back catalogue title or to enhance the appearance of a new release.

We find that the larger slipcase (or capacity wallet) is a favourite packaging solution to those looking to maybe hard-bundle a digipack, a card wallet with bonus disc, a book and maybe a catalogue.

Boxes are a popular and strong outer packaging solution for bundling, as an example, a series of card wallets with an accompanying booklet.

The images to the right show a variety of the more complex and striking packaging solutions

Disc Manufacturing

Enhance your product? Find that ‘luxury’ packaging solution?

Here are some of the more popular optional extras.

  • Add additional colours to your disc. Our standard process includes up to 4 colours, but why not a 5th?
  • Enhance your disc’s appearance with either a Matt or a Gloss finish
  • Increase the pagination of your booklet. Our prices quoted above include 4 page booklets where relevant. For replicated orders we can print booklets with as many pages as you require.
  • Have you considered a hard-back cover to your booklet? We can hang suspended wallets for your discs inside a hard-back cover or we can bundle hard-back books with jewel cases inside slipcases or box sets.
  • How will your product look in store? Add gloss or matt finish to the outer packaging.
  • Add a little weight to the appearance of the product. We can use a variety of thicknesses of packaging.
  • Include additional printed parts inside the product? Why not include a limited edition poster, a flyer or a postcard?
  • If you have an important message why not add a sticker to the front of the case?

Extras do come with a cost. Let’s talk through the project together and discuss the best packaging solution. We'll then produce a final quote for you, tailored to your needs. We look forward to hearing from you.

Preparation of Artwork for Reproduction

Prices from £80.00

We find that some of our manufacturing or design clients, who do not require a full design service, do occasionally require someone to ready their final assets for reproduction.

Clients simply supply their indesign packaged artwork containing all fonts and images (we can provide guidance on this if required) and we prepare your print-ready high resolution files.

Logo Design

Prices from £100

Whether you are looking to start a new label and need to stand out from the crowd or if you're an established label or artist looking to freshen your brand we can help.

After consultation we will start the design process. Throughout development we work together providing creative expertise which means your ideas come to life. Launch Music International used their own design service to re-brand and design their logo and web site.

Post Production

Post-production is a general term used to cover a variety of actions, all of which take place after the recording sessions have finished.

All post production takes place in the editing studios where we have set up monitoring in a controlled acoustic to allow accurate adjustments to be made. All studios have Quad Electrostatic monitors (regarded as the finest available for classical music) whilst Studio One is also equipped for 5.1 surround with Genelec active speakers and subwoofer.

LMI's Post Production is primarily a Mastering Service

We can prepare your master in two ways. You can choose either a Pre-Mastered Compact Disc (PMCD) or DDP on 8mm Exabyte tape. We will supply all supporting paperwork verification where appropriate.

For Replication we will upload your DDP via a secure connection directly to plant where the factory will then run independent checks.

Alternatively your PMCD can be posted to plant with supporting documentation using a 'trackable' mail service.

Additional Post Production Services are listed below. Any questions please do not hesitate to Contact Us.

Compilation

On the face of it, compilation is simply stringing a number of different recorded items together; something many people do for their own listening enjoyment. However, a more professional approach can lead to a more aesthetically pleasing and technically better product, with a higher perceived value. This can help a good compilation to stand out amongst many others.

With a veritable mélange of playback machines, we can cope with a wide variety of source formats, including CD, DVD, DAT, cassette, reel-to-reel analogue tape, 33/45/78rpm discs, PCM701/Betamax, and a whole host of computer file formats. And if our production team can't play your recording back, they will certainly know someone who can!

Compilation is undertaken in our production team's acoustically-treated edit suites on the SADiE hard-disc editing platform, allowing quick and easy comparison of different options, in a completely non-destructive way. Super-accurate (audio) monitoring in a controlled and familiar environment allows decisions to be made with confidence. Clients are welcome to attend compilation sessions.

Where required, our production team can also use their restoration skills to improve the perceived quality of a recording, for example to remove clicks and bumps, or to lessen noise.

Mixing

Although much of the work is mixed at the time of recording, some projects benefit from being recorded 'multitrack', keeping recording elements separate. These would then be mixed at a later stage.

Whilst more time-consuming, this approach can be more flexible, and is particularly useful for complex, large-scale recordings.

It would also be necessary if different versions of the same material were ultimately required, e.g. a stereo version and a surround version.

Generally speaking, editing takes would be done on the multitrack recordings before mixing, and this may be done on either the SADiE hard-disc editor, or on Tascam's MxView for the MX2424.

The final result of mixing may be conventional stereo, multi-channel / surround, or both. Studio One is equipped with a 5.1 Genelec monitoring system, laid-out in accordance with ITU BS.775-1.

Restoration

Restoration is improving the subjective quality of a (usually old) recording. It's about removing unwanted artefacts, but could also be about changing aspects of the wanted sound.

Typically, recordings that need restoration come from 78rpm discs, 33/45rpm vinyl, or analogue tape (including cassette). However, restoration may also benefit recordings from damaged CDs or DATs, or recordings mangled by some other process, such as mp3, ISDN or POTS (Plain Old Telephone System).

Problems such as clicks, crackle, pops, thumps, hum, hiss, distortion, dropouts and speed variation can all be remedied using a variety of sophisticated software from Cedar, Dcart and Soundforge.

Our production team has a great deal of experience restoring old recordings for CD release, for broadcast and for private collections. Although some noises can be removed completely and inaudibly, many processes can produce unnatural sounding artefacts when over-used. Balancing noise-reduction against introduction of artefacts is key to good-sounding restoration, and this balance can vary with the timbre and dynamics of the recording, as well as other things. While modern software tools allow significant reduction of unwanted noises, it's all too easy to get carried away and mangle a recording with them.

If you're unsure about any technical issues please contact us - For our Complete Guide of what’s required please download our ‘Client Manual 2012’ by clicking here.

Both our printer and manufacturing plant requires you to use their specific design templates and achieve the required technical audio/video specifications that are compatible with them.

Before you start to design your artwork it is important to ensure that you’re working with the right templates.

Equally you must be aware of the requirements for preparing and supplying a physical or digital CD or DVD master.

Receipt of artwork or master that does not comply with our templates will cause delay to the manufacturing process.

Please allow 10 working days from receipt of approved master and artwork files. If we find any errors in the master or artwork and need you to resupply we will endeavour to deliver within your initial timeframe but this is not always possible.

It is a rule of thumb that we Duplicate all orders under approx 300 units and Replicate all orders all order over approx 300 units
Duplication is generally used for short run manufacturing. LMI uses duplication for orders between 3 and approx 300 units.

Your master disc is placed in to a reader which copies the data onto a hard drive. The master is ejected and blank discs are then loaded into the system. Your data is burned to the blank discs. The information is verified and the copy then accepted or rejected. Because disc burn speed has increased greatly over the years, it is now possibly to duplicate large quantities of DVD's in a very short time.

Short run manufacturing offers you a cost effective way to produce high quality promotional copies or maintain slower moving back catalogue titles. Making just the quantity you require maximises your cash flow and maintains your stock at management levels.
Replication is used for the larger/mass quantity print runs. LMI uses replication for orders over 300 units. A glass-master is made from your premaster. The glass-master is then used to "stamp" your data on to the blank media. The disc is then printed and lacquered for protection. Due to the processes involved, Replication usually takes slightly longer then duplication. 10 working days is average.
There is no difference except for slight compatibility issues between the two processes. A replicated disc will work on all DVD players and computer drives. A duplicated disc will work on players that will read a DVD-R disc.
All replicated discs, for delivery within Europe and the UK are manufactured in the EU.

All duplicated discs, for delivery within Europe and the UK are manufactured in the UK.

All discs, for delivery within the USA and Canada are manufactured in the USA
We accept both PMCD and DDP file sets. For more information please contact us.
